Bringing Your Second Cat Home
The Analysis: What problem does this course solve?
Many cat shelters need to solve the issue of owners returning newly-adopted cats because they have trouble getting along with other cats who have already been in the household. After talking to some owners and analyzing their situations, it was apparent that the humans did not take thoughtful steps when introducing the new felines to one another. This course is therefore created to teach potential adoptive parents how to properly integrate a second cat into the home; as a result, the shelters will ideally see a lower number of returned cats.
The Design: A Scenario-Based Course
Instead of providing a boring list of guidelines for learners to memorize, it is more effective to provide them with an authentic practice. Using a scenario-based design, learners get to think and make decisions on their own and then see the consequences of their choices. They are then provided with detailed feedbacks and the option to try again or move on. This design will make the course more engaging and the concepts more memorable. I first created a storyboard that specify the details of this course to guide the development process.
The Development: Adobe Illustrator & Articulate Storyline
After the storyboard is completely, I used Adobe Illustrator to edit downloaded images of the cats and the items the learners will need in the process. This is to ensure that the colors work together aesthetically. Additionally, the facial expressions and body language of the cats are changed to emphasize their reactions to the learners' actions. The course is then built using Articulate Storyline with layers and buttons to allow for learners interactions.
